The Tai Ping Rebellion Coins. AD1850 to 1864: Brief History & Highlights.  Page 0

This is a period of massive civil war in China led by Hong Xiu Quan, who established the "Tai Ping Heavenly Kingdom". During this period, the rebels issued their own coinage comprising standard circulating coins as well as decorative & commemorative issues. Many of these rebel coins were destroyed after the rebellion was quelled, making the surviving pieces valuable collectibles.
