Wang Mang Coins - Xin Dynasty Coins. 9 to 22AD: Brief History & Highlights
Wang Mang was the founder and only Emperor of the short lived Xin Dynasty. He is known as a usurper who seized the Han throne in 9AD. The Han Dynasty was restored after he was overthrown in 22AD. The Xin Dynasty was also known as the interregnum between the Western Han Dynasty and the Eastern Han Dynasty. During the Wang Meng reign, some rather interesting coinages and monetary reforms were introduced. Besides reintroducing coinages with knife and spade shapes from the Zhou Dynasty, they aslo have inscriptions of different monetary denominations in value 1,10,20, 50, 500 ..etc. Eventually Wang Mang abolished the odd shaped Zhou Dynasty coinages in favor of the tradtional round Wu Zhu cash coins of the Han Dynasty.
