Han  Dynasty Coins BC206B - AD220: Brief History & Highlights. Page 0

During the Han Dynasty, the Wu Zhu coin was commissioned during the reign of Emperor Han Wu Ti. It became the longest circulating coins in the history of China lasting about 739 years till it was withdrawn during the Sui and Tang Dynasty. The Elm Leaf Ban Liang was also minted during this period to replace the large heavy Qin Ban Liang which was considered to use too much bronze to produce by Han Gao Zhu. The distinctive Elm Leaf Ban Liang is small and light.
