The 3rd son of Emperor Shunzhi ascended the imperial throne at a very young age of 8 upon his father's death in 1662. The new emperor adopted the reign title "Kang Xi" which means "Peaceful Harmony". Emperor Kangxi reigned for 60 years and has the distinction of the longest serving emperor in the history of China. Emperor Kangxi was a highly capable ruler and China prospered and expanded its territories significantly during his reign. Cash coins casted during his reign were very uniform and also of high quality. Except for coins issued by the Board of Revenue and Board of Works in Beijing, the coins issued from the provinces bear both Manchu and Chinese inscriptions of the names of the mints and provinces.
