Jin Dynasty & Western Xia AD1032 to 1234: Brief History & Highlights. Page 0
These are 2 contemporaneous or overlapping dynasties in medieval China. The Western Xia (AD1032-1227) was ruled by the Tangut people. Early coinage of the Western Xia was inscribed exclusively in Tangut scripts. The later issues were inscribed in both Tangut & Chinese scripts. Coins from the Western Xia period was generally scarce. The Jin Dynasty, led by the Jurchen, initially used Liao and Song coins before minting its own in AD1158. Some issues of Jin Dynasty coins are very well minted and are admired for its calligraphic artistry like the "Zheng Long Yuan Bao" and "Da Ding Tong Bao".
