Chinese Amulets and Charms. Brief History & Highlights.
Chinese amulets and charms have been an integral part of Chinese customs and traditions for centuries. Amulets and charms come in many different materials and forms. They can be made of jade, stone, metal (bronze, silver, gold), or wood and be in a form of animals, coins or just an auspicious shape like a round disc or a flower or fruit like a peach. Feature in these pages are mainly bronze coin amulets inscribed with auspicious characters and auspicious animals like deers (lu), bat (fu)s. Nowadays, amulets can be found everywhere. They are used as ornaments, jewelry as fashion accessories, in home and business for feng shui, or as personal ornaments for good health, good luck, happiness, or even protection against negative elements

Obv: "Wu Xing Da Bu" in seal writing translated as the "Large Coins of the Five Elements"
Coin shaped amulet replicating the "Wu Xing Da Bu" coins issued during the N Zhou Dynasty 557 to 581AD.
"Wu Xing" (The "Five Elements) represent Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, and Water. In ancient Chinese cosmology, the changes and interaction of these 5 elements explain all the changes taking in the cosmos.

"Phoenix" represents grace, beauty, femininity, and peace.
House numismatic charms are usually large and are made of bronze to look like a Chinese cash coin. These charms are placed within the house to bring good fortune and to balance the forces with the house
